This is an emotional and educational book. A great book choice for book clubs! Lots of questions and good discussion. We enjoyed tasting food from Afghanistan. Katie discovered a restaurant in the Columbus area called Cafe Kabul. Kabul is the city from the book. They served authentic Afghan food that was surprisingly good. Most of the group had not experienced this type of fare before. If you want to take the food experience a bit further spread a blanket on the floor and gather round. One member checked out a great book from the library to help us learn more about the clothes, culture and recipes.
We left with great favors. One member made beaded bracelets. Another few made friendship stews in jars. Lots of beans and rice in that mixture. We made scarves and beaded the ends. The scarves were wrapped in brown paper with quotes from the book across the top.
